A building manager in Bratislava needed to solve the problem of cracked handles on hydrant cabinets. The original plastic parts degraded over time and broke, and new ones have not been manufactured for a long time, with no direct alternative available on the market.
The project began with precise reverse engineering. From the damaged and cracked original pieces we measured the key geometric dimensions and reconstructed their original shape. The result was a digital 3D model in STL format that fully respected the mounting holes in the hydrant cabinets.
For production we chose FDM 3D printing and the engineering material PETG, which stands out for its high toughness and, unlike the original plastic, does not become brittle. For safety and visibility we chose a neon yellow color that is as close to the original as possible. The entire order of 680 pieces was produced on our printers, with a net print time of 450 hours.
We delivered 680 dimensionally identical handles to the client, with higher mechanical resistance than the original components. The building manager thus solved the hydrant problem quickly and efficiently.
